Should I Hire a Personal Trainer?

Chances are you're opening up this blog post a little skeptical. Yes, this post is written by personal trainers, on a personal training business website, however, we're not here to tell you that personal training is for everyone.

When people contact our studio or come in for a free training session, they are generally thinking "Do I need to hire a personal trainer?" or "should I be hiring a personal trainer?" Often times this question is presented after a lot of trial and error done over several periods of time. As with anything, there isn't a one size fits all for this questioning. It can often come as a time of realization that something needs to be done for ones self, it can be out of frustration that nothing seems to work or confusion on where to go next. Some people think about it as a jump start into their independent fitness journey. Whatever the case, there's an answer.

Should I Hire a Personal Trainer?

There are several times when hiring a personal trainer is the right choice. If you answer YES to several of these questions, then consider contacting a trainer. (We'll be posting about finding the right personal trainer in another post)

1. I need consistency to my workout routine.

2. I go to the gym but I'm not sure what to do.

3. I need someone to hold me accountable.

4. I'm struggling with my nutrition and workout routine.

5. I'm not sure what my goal is and need some assistance.

6. The weight room makes me nervous.

7. I go on the treadmill for 1 hr/4 times a week.

8. I struggle with health issues/injuries that make it hard to know what to do when it comes to working out/nutrition.

9. I'm bored at the gym.

10. I can afford personal training at this time.

11. I keep hurting myself.

If you answer YES to several of these questions, then personal training might not be for you at this time.

1. My goals are set and I am able to achieve them without help.

2. I'm happy with the way my training and nutrition is going.

3. I am able to stay consistent.

4. I am not financially able to afford training.

5. My form on all exercises looks really good.

As you can see, there are more possibilities where hiring a personal trainer may be helpful. However, whether or not you align more with one set of questions or the other, there are always ebbs and flows to our answers. While it might not be right for you to hire a personal trainer right now, that isn't to say you can't benefit from a personal trainer at SOME POINT. In fact, another set of eyes can always be helpful (two personal trainers here: both look to one another for assistance). A personal trainer can help you to add some new variety to your workouts, get stronger/more toned, lose or gain weight or just give you an opportunity to have a second set of eyes.
